Teaming up with Shanghai’s urban vinyl artist Curious Boy, we created Sneakerhead, a limited edition designer toy that transforms sneaker culture into a sculptural art form. Commissioned by New York based Stadium Goods for their debut at Sneakercon China, the brief was to build something unforgettable, a piece that would stand out in a competitive space and speak directly to China’s new generation of sneaker enthusiasts. As founder John McPheters put it, “I want a display shelf design that will impress these Chinese sneakerheads with our unique, expensive sneaker collections and our culture. It has to have an I wear therefore I am attitude all over it.” We removed the figure’s head and replaced it with a platform made to display a sneaker. The sneaker became the identity. With a different sneaker for each head, the toy takes on its own individual character. The sculpt leans into street culture with its slouched stance, oversized hoodie, clenched fists, and spray cans at its feet. The raw silver finish invites each owner to paint it, matching the figure’s body to the sneaker on top, turning every piece into a custom expression.
At Sneakercon China, Sneakerhead immediately resonated with audiences across fashion, design, and streetwear communities. It pulled over 12 million impressions on Chinese social platforms, 7.8 million views on YouTube, and drew the attention of figures like Jaden Smith, Tyra Banks, Lil Mosey, and Alicia Keys. With only 50 units produced and no plans for reissue, some were acquired for up to USD 15,500. Sneakerhead became more than a collectible. It became a new canvas for storytelling, where taste, creativity, and cultural pride converge. A piece not only to own but to complete, reflecting how sneakers are no longer just worn, they are displayed, curated, and lived as symbols of identity and status.
